Welcome to Henderson!

A history of honest and hardworking pioneers — a heritage of friendly folks with a “can do” spirit striving to build a better community — and a blessing of abundant and beautiful natural resources.... All are found in the rolling hills and pine forests of Northeast Texas in a town called Henderson.  Haven’t heard of Henderson? Well now is a great time to learn more about a community so many people love to call home. As a Go Texan Certified Retirement Community, Henderson has a lot to be proud of. It is a designated Texas Main Street City, as well as, a designated National Main Street City.  It is the county seat of Rusk County and is named after the first governor of Texas, James Pinckney Henderson.

The community of Henderson possesses a relaxed and friendly rural atmosphere combined with sophisticated and intelligent charm — boots & jeans, rodeos, fishing,  hunting, birding, wireless internet coffee shops, gourmet cafes, tennis, parks, golfing, theatre, museums and historic homes are all found in this special place. Community year round events include many equestrian activities at the Rusk County Exposition Center. Other activities include July patriotic events, theatrics and the famous Heritage Syrup Festival, always the second Saturday in November.

Henderson offers the conveniences and hassle-free living of small town America, yet despite its size, it also provides many goods and services normally only found in larger communities. If Henderson’s many retail stores do not have that one special item you might need, our central location in the heart of East Texas, allows easy access to the larger communities of Tyler (30 miles), Longview (25 miles), Nacogdoches (30 miles) or Shreveport (65 miles). The major metropolitan areas of Dallas and Houston are only 2 ½ and 3 ½ hours away, respectively, if a day in the city is on your agenda.
