Welcome to Longview...
...where small town atmosphere meets the conveniences of a larger city. Founded in 1870, the city boomed in 1931 when the world's largest known oil field at the time was discovered at nearby Lanthrop Discovery Oil Well. Today, Longview has become a hub of East Texas, offering highly-regarded hospitals, numerous parks and walking trails, a variety of retail and restaurant options and an active arts community, all with a low cost-of-living, a lack of traffic congestion and a strong, diverse local economy.
Surrounded by natural beauty and nestled in the heart of the pines and hardwoods of northeast Texas, Longview is especially amenable for nature lovers. In the region known as "Texas Lake Country," Longview is an outdoor paradise with more than 25 lakes within 75 miles, as well as many parks, golf courses and more.
The community offers educational opportunities at the Longview campuses of LeTourneau University, Kilgore College and the University of Texas at Tyler. Cultural and community activities fill the calendar from the nationally-recognized "Great Texas Balloon Race," to AlleyFest, to the Freeze Your Fanny Bike Ride, to Longview Kennel Club's AKC Dog Show, to the Memorial weekend motorcycle rally and professional entertainment at LeTourneau University's S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center.
